Issues affecting children and young people in Kenya


Like many other countries in Africa, Kenyan Children are faced with challenges which need to be addressed. These include:

  • Teenage pregnancy
  • Early marriage (UNICEF in Kenya 4% married by 15 years of ag and 23% by 18 – Child Marriage Around the World. Girls Not Brides)
  • Female genital mutilation
  • Alcohol and drugs abuse.
  • School violence and bullying
  • Radicalization
  • Juvenile delinquency
  • Modern misuse of technology such as internet and other social media platforms
  • Sex and sexuality
  • HIV and AIDS

Repssi Work in Kenya

  • Provided technical support to Orphan Rural Development Programme (KORDP) in Busia and Kibera Community Self-Help Programme (KICOSHEP) to mainstream psychosocial support and care into early childhood development education centres, primary and secondary schools.
  • Worked with the County National AIDS and STIs Control Programme Coordinator in the Ministry of Health to target school going children and the community as a whole.
  • Participated in a 3-day Ministry of Health Task Force Meeting on psychosocial support to develop a PSS response to child sexual gender-based violence as part of the Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) for children facing the vice.
  • Partnering with the Maasai Mara University to deliver the certificate course on Community Base Work with Children and Youth CBWBY.
